You know that feeling where you roam around looking for your glasses for like ten minutes, only to put a hand to your face in resignation and realise you were wearing the damn things the whole time? That, but Celebi.
Let me explain: there are several events that occur in the Gen IV Pokémon games, and they are all quite cool. You have Shaymin in the field with Oak’s Letter, you have the flute to get to Arceus, and then the extra content in HGSS when you trade it to that game. There’s an awesome hidden gem if you got the Pikachu-Coloured Pichu event that lets you get a spiky eared Pichu, which I just managed to buy a Japanese cart containing the prerequisite event Pichu. But aside from a lack of Jirachi/Deoxys I could get by authentic or simulated event means, there was one bit of content I was keen to at least try to track down.
In 2011, there was an event where they gave away Celebi. I have a Celebi, but you needed this specific one to trigger a super secret in game cutscene and battle with some super cool lore behind it. I won’t go into too much detail as I’ve avoided doing so best I can, but I couldn’t for the life of me determine exactly which Celebi you needed, and therefore what to search for. I looked high and low with no luck, and the one I have doesn’t trigger the event.
It doesn’t trigger the event because you have to complete the Rocket storyline. I’m a moron, I own the Celebi, it’s literally that Celebi I got in 2011. I am, so glad I didn’t go down a rabbit hole trying to find a cart with just that…
