Another 11pm blog post, another day I didn’t quite hit relaxed productivity. I realised something after I wrote my blog yesterday and as I was journaling, which is that it doesn’t matter a whole bunch. There’s been no real reason to rush this last week, and I was burned out emotionally and physically. It’s a miracle I had one day where I dragged the needle away from 11 and it’s not the end of the world that I couldn’t keep it away. Today was also a nice day, including pitching Stony Faced to my dad and step-mum, who both thought it would make a thought-provoking read and had some good suggestions. For example, while I need to keep the book on focus, they pointed out how the House of Lords in the UK functions almost like a living statue exhibition, people put on pedestals in much the same way as many will one day stand in stone, and just as antiquated an institution. As Parliament Square will be one of my focal points I’m glad they suggested it.

I only wish I was having that much fun with NHO. I lamented that it is pretty much a ‘failed book’ at this point, but they pointed out that at least I can use it to learn what projects to avoid, and mistakes to avoid too. I need to do an in depth post-mortem on the series’ first drafts in September, and I think sequentially written trilogies, worlds I haven’t fleshed out before I start writing and bloated casts are all things I need to take some serious practice in or avoid. And writing earlier because man am I tired…
