I bought a rather expensive item today. It will be interesting to see whether this has a positive, or a neutral effect on my productivity. What I bought was a pair of noise cancelling headphones. These are not a pricy brand, but from reading around online I found they had rave reviews. Now I’m trying them out, I have to say they were not wrong. These are Goji headphones – Currys PC World’s own brand – and they do wipe out everything that isn’t right next to me. I’ll likely talk about this more in future as I get used to using them, but so far, so good.
It’s Friday, so I can have a lie in tomorrow if I don’t get to bed on time tonight. That’s all well and good, but this should be an unusual buffer, not an invitation. I should go to sleep as early as I can, and that means hitting target as soon as I can. In an ideal world, I will have target in the bag by 6pm, at which point I’ll journal, and then and only then leave work. That would be perfect, but will need me to have discipline the moment the work day ends to switch into writing mode. The 5-6 window could in time become a “writing bloc” on a future calendar tool like discussed yesterday.
The more ridgid I make my routine, the easier it will be to put it on autopilot. This will also make it more fragile, and more draining. There likely isn’t a perfect balance, but this is one I need to put more thought into.
